CCSIB:  THE CORTE MADERA PLANNING COMMISSION
AND THE GENERAL PLAN

"THIS SMALL VITAL TOWN"

The Commision, vital to Corte Madera and composed of outstanding citizens, worked long and hard on this important plan.  It does not deal with decisions for leasing. But it does have responsibility for protecting and enhancing the physical and environmental character of the Town. Many of the folks on the Commission have a wide and enlightened approach to how they see our town.

"The General Plan establishes the long-term vision for a community."

"The General Plan is comprehensive in its scope. It identifies land use, circulation, environmental, economic and even social goals and policies as they relate to local land use and development." Planning Commission Members are selected by the Town Council, and serve one-year terms. This responsibility is carried out based on the Town's General Plan that reflects a balance of the public's interest and private property rights as determined through public hearings by the Planning Commission and Town Council. General Plan policies provide the framework for more detailed planning studies and the standards for environmental evaluation and development review. Planning works with other units in the Environmental Services Department in seeking further improvements in the development review process to ensure both a timely processing of development permit applications and high quality development that is compatible with existing development and community standards. The Planning Commission meets on the Second and Fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall."

THE CORTE MADERA GENERAL PLAN

General Plan Benefits
"The General Plan update provides opportunity for substantial citizen input on shaping the future image of Corte Madera. A series of community workshops, small group meetings, special presentations and public hearings will be held as part of the Town's community outreach program. Additionally, the Town has created a 17-member General Plan Steering Committee to provide additional opportunity for community input on the General Plan update. The General Plan provides a basis for local decision-making.
